WALKING GROUP

Under the leadership of the Mission Group, several members and friends of the Church have decided to form a walking group. Since June 2018, many local paths have been trod, sometimes in good weather, others not so good. However, they have always been enjoyable. After having no walks since January 2020 due to the restrictions, we are now back in "full swing". Follow our footsteps here and enjoy some of the photographs taken during each walk.

September 2022

It was a lovely, warm, sunny morning when we went round the Banton Loch to Banton. We stopped for breakfast rolls at the Swan Inn before returning by the same route.  At the time of writing this article,  the route for the October walk has not yet been decided. It will however be included in the Sunday intimations and also here on the website. Please look out for the next walk and come along and enjoy easy walking in the lovely scenery in and around our town.

August 2022

Walking Group Aug 22.jpg

A lovely walk was enjoyed along part of the old railway line from Lennoxtown towards Srathblane on Saturday 13 August. A very pleasant time was spent over teas/coffees at the end of the walk at Clachan of Campsie.

The next walk will be on Saturday 10 September meeting at the entance to Colzium at 10.00am. We will repeeat a recent walk, which was very enjoyable, round Banton Loch to Banton with tea/coffee stop at the Swan Inn.  If this sounds like a walk you would enjoy, please come along; you will be made very welcome. If transport is required, please contact any member of the Mission Group.

July 2022

On Saturday 9 July, we had a lovely walk over in Dumbreck Nature Reserve. It was really interesting to see the improvements made in the last couple of years including the new fish ladder. Our next walk will be on Saturday 13 August when we will meet at the road leading to Glazert Bank Hotel. From there, we will walk part of the old railway line which eventually leads to Srathblane but we won't be going that far! Tea/coffee stop will be at the Glazert Bank Hotel or we can decide an alternative on the day. Everyone is welcome and transport can be arranged.

Walk 9 July 22.jpg

All set to go, Sat 9 July 2022

If you are looking for some gentle exercise on Saturday 9 July, then please come along at 10.00am and meet up with the Walking Group outside the main hall in Church Street.  We will be exploring the new paths into the Dumbreck Marsh, returning to the Scarecrow for teas/coffees. These walks are open to all, so please come alaong. You will be made very welcome.

28 June 2022

Nine members of the walking group met at the main entrance to the Colzium on Saturday 14 May and walked along the south side of the dam. The walk had been postponed because of ongoing work along the lochside. The weather was lovely and it was a very enjoyable walk as you can see from all the happy faces. Once we reached the village of Banton, we stopped at The Swan Inn for tea/coffee and breakfast rolls before we returned to Kilsyth by the same route. The next walk is planned for Saturday 11 June meeting at the Glazertbank Hotel, Lennoxtown at 10.00am. We will walk west along part of the old railway line in the direction of Strathblane. Tea/coffee stop will probably be at the Glazerbank Hotel on return.

May 2022

The next walk is on Saturday 14 May meeting at the main entrance to Colzium at 10.00am. The walk will be round the Banton Loch to Banton where we will have tea/coffee at the Swan Inn before returning along the same route. This will be a lovely walk and all are invited.

March 2022

On 12 March 2022, we were unable to follow the planned walk to Banton due to the inaccessibility of the path on the south side of the loch. Instead,  we had a lovely walk round the Colzium estate with the weather dictating a longer stop than normal for teas and coffees in the Visitor Centre.

Sadly, we have decided to cancel our April walk due to a number of our members being involved in work for Mary's Meals and our "Support Ukraine" campaign.

Our next planned walk will be on Saturday 14 May meeting at the main entrance to Colzium at 10.00am where, weather permitting, we will do our planned walk for March. These walks are open to anyone who would like to join us. Just come along on the day or contact us for further information.

January 2022

The plan for the start of 2022 is that we will meet at 11.00am on Saturday 15 January for a breakfast at the Scarecrow. It will be good to have a rough idea of numbers and full details will be included in Sunday morning intimations.

We enjoyed lovely walks last summer. *Previous years' walks can be found on our archive pages. This has been an excellent opportunity for people who do not like to go walking on their own to enjoy our lovely countryside, having a chat along the way and tea/coffee stop.

We do not normally meet over the winter months but this could be up for discussion. Watch this space for our new start-up date. We are always delighted when we are able to welcome new members to share in the enjoyment which comes from walking in good company.
